Mr. Wilmink,
Thank you for all of the information you sent my father. I passed it

subject: Found you
Date: Tue, 17 Feb 1998 20:10:00 -0600
Rolf,
I have a lot of addresses of 75th-291st-3rd Batt.-M Co. men. Their Capt.
was Capt. Ben E. Creel from Henderson, KY. He is dead now. Would you
want
the names and/or addresses of the men that dad has? Also, my dad has
some
pictures of himself and several of the men in his M Co.--would you be
interested in that? He can name all or most all of them. He also has
some
info. about where they were in diary form he got from some of his
buddies.
We do want to get the roster of the men in his unit if possible.
The cousin I told you about that is in Germany now with her husband who
is
in US Air Force--not sure where--I looked, but couldn't find a town
name.
My dad was in Dortmund--near you--he and his buddy said they heard of a
cave near there and that alot of things were stored there--like town
treasures--things the town wanted to keep.
Co. M has a reunion every 2 yrs. but have voted to have every year
--next
one is in Calif. in 1998--tell you later when.
I'll get word to dad's Co. about your web page and about the flags--
What your doing is a very good thing! I hope you find the flags!

4.) Web sites feature military branches
Peninsula Daily News, Monday, Jan 5 1998:
The Marines have landed in Cyberspace. So have the Army, Navy, Air Force
and Coast Guard: For many veterans, military service represents one of
the most important times in their lives. The web sites - both official
and unofficial - for the various branches are a good way to revisit
those times. After all, you can do it while slouched in front of a
computer with no worries about shining shoes or brass. And best yet, no
one will try to shoot you.
LetŽs start our tour of duty with the Army. YouŽll find the official
home page at http://www.army.mil. The page has an excellent search
engine that youŽll be able to use to search for information about your
old unit. Type in, for instance, "101st Airborne" and youŽll find links
both official and unofficial sites for the famed Screaming Eagle
division.
But the best feature is a link to the Department of Defense alumni
database. If youŽve been searching for a long lost buddy from your
military days, youŽll find this database at
http://www.army.mil/vetinfo/default.htm. You can search for your friend
by unit or name. The database - which isnŽt complete - lets you search
for veterans of any branch of the military
The official home pages for the other branches work much in the same
way, with many of the same links. So rather than spending much more time
on official home pages, weŽll just list them instead to give us time to
spend at some unofficial sites.
YouŽll find the Air Force at http://www.af.mil, the Marines have dug in
at http://www.usmc.mil, the Navy at http://www.navy.mil, and the Coast
Guard at http://www.dot.gov/dot-info/uscg. ThatŽs done, letŽs visit some
of the excellent unofficial pages. Since women veterans havenŽt gotten
the attention and praise they deserve, a good place to start is at a
page called American women in Uniform.Veterans too! at
http://userpages.aug.com/captbarb. The page was created by Capt. Barbara
A. Wilson, USAF, retired. YouŽll be able to tell immediately that this
isnŽt an official page. Instead, visitors are told that these are the
"random ramblings of a self-appointed distaff critic of anything and
everything."
But, in truth, this is an excellent page with links organized by:
Revolutionary War Women; Civil War Woman; the War of 1812 and the
Spanish-American War; World War I; World War II; Post WWII and Korea;
Vietnam; and Desert Storm.
The next site on our tour is a sad reminder of the price Americans paid
during the Vietnam War. YouŽll find the POW/MIA homepage at
http://lcweb2.loc.gov/pow/powhome.html. Once there, youŽll be able to
search a database of more than 137,000 records that will help you locate
information on those who are either missing in action or were prisoners
of war in Vietnam. Finally, if you are a veteran youŽll want to bookmark
the Department of Veterans Affairs home page at http://www.va.gov. From
there, you can follow links to find out what benefits are owed you,
including health, home loans, disability and burial. YouŽll be able to
get special answers here, or if you wish you can read the entire
text of the Federal Benefits Manual. One excellent feature of the page
is the ability to download various governmet forms needed to apply for
benefits. Users of Microsoft Word can even get those forms already
formatted for Word. ________________ Bill Husted is a columnist for The
Atlanta Journal-Constitution. His column, Cyberscene, runs each Monday
on the Weather/Help page.
