Re: 75th Inf Div newsline no. 28 (25 feb 1999)

Mr. Wilmink,

I am only 28 years of age and have never served in the Armed Forces.  But I just wanted to thank you for your diligence to keeping the history and the memory of the 75th Infantry and all the men who sacrificed their lives and gave everything during W.W.II.
You see my Dad is PFC Robert E. Campbell, 289th, Company E.  I love him not just because he is my Dad, but also for the sacrifice he made for his family and country.  Everytime I read articles, books or even the documentaries of W.W.II, I am in total humility of what they went through for their country.  Me and my Dad talk about his experiences and everytime we do he goes one step higher on my hero list.
Everytime we talk his memories become memories for me and then I can pass his experience to my children and grandchildren.

Thank you for you effort.

Phillip E. Campbell

Attention: LTC Mike Flanagan

I read your request in the 75th Inf. Div. Newsline No.28, published by Rolf Wilmink, concerning information on the 275th Engineer Combat Battalion. I have six photographs that I took of members of Co "C", 275 Combat Engineer Battalion, 75th inf. Div., 9th U.S.Army while they were constructing an anti-mine net across the Rhine River at Duisburg, Germany.

I was a combat photographer with the 167th Signal Photo Company and I took these photos on 24 March 1945. If this is the kind of information you are researching I am able to send you computer generated copies of these photos.

Sincerely

Joseph D. Karr

From: Jay Puckett
Datum: Sun, 28 Feb 1999 08:30:49 -0600

Dear Mr. Wilmink,

I tried to send you a similar message before and it was returned, so here I go again.

I am searching for anyone who served in the 75th with my dad.  He was in the 290th Reg., 2nd Battalion, Company F.  His picture can be found in the 75th Div. boot camp graduation book, if you look up that picture of his company you will find him on the back row (standing) on the right at the very end.  I am also looking for some friends of his who were, I think, in the 75th.  Their names are James P. McCall and Chandler.  I also have a few pictures and momentos.

Thanks!

I reciev'ed this old message from Glenn Booker.
My name is Tim Roop. I was in the 82nd Airborne from 1973 to 1979, at Ft. Bragg, NC. I was in Nijmegen for the 40th anniversary in 1984 and I participated on the "Vierdaage Nijmegen" march and got the medal in July 1986.
I had the pleasure of meeting with Ms. Cora Baltussen and Mr Henny Klosters at the "Liberation Museum". They both helped me in preparation and during the march. I was attached to a group of "Dutch Military Police".
My 3 uncles were at Omaha Beach on D-Day. You might like to see my website at: www.ww2dday.com

I am 13 years old and am simply fascinated by World War two and the stories of men who fought so bravely.  It may seem odd that a 13 year old is interested in World War II, but it is so interesting to hear about the hardships the men went through and their bravery.  Please send me any information about the 75th Inf. Division and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.  Thank You for your time.

Do you have any information on the Army Jazz Band?  I am researching my grandfather who was a clarinet player in the band later in WWII.  He was stationed in Germany.  His name was Joseph Frances Lesinskas.  Any information you could pass along would be greatly appreciated.

Datum: Thu, 11 Mar 1999 00:16:21 -0800
From: Carol Ruhlman cruhlman@penn.com

Dear Sir,
      My father was an MP. He was sent to North Africa in June of 1943.
Later on they made the invasion of Italy at the Salerno-Naples area. He was also at Anzio, Monte Cassino, Rome,and the Arno River. They were pulled out of Italy to the Southern invasion of France and northward to the Rhineland. In Italy, he was in the 5TH Army and carried that insignia on his right shoulder. On the left, was the 75TH Divisional patch. I believe this is where he was attached to the 75TH Division at the Rhineland.Would you have any record of this in your files? His Serial # is  33 408 838  and his MP number is  677.  His discharge papers said he was with  Battery A-130th Field Art. BN. I have no record of his MP unit number and when  asked,  he always said they were a detached unit, with no particular outfit. If you could find out if he was in fact with the 75TH and possibly a unit number, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm having a hard time tracing him without a Unit number.

        Thank you so much for your time,

        Please add my email address to your publishing list, so I can provide my Dad with your newsletter.

SECRETARY OF DEFENSE COHEN ESTABLISHES RESERVE COMPONENT WEB SECURITY CELL
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen has approved the creation of a 22-member Reserve component team to monitor and evaluate Department of Defense Web sites to ensure the sites do not compromise national security by revealing sensitive defense informatio. The team, called the Joint Web Risk Assessment Cell (JWRAC), will be comprised of two full-time Reservists and 20 drilling Reserve and National Guard personnel. The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) will start up the cell on March 1, 1999. "Technology has extended America's reach around the world, and it has extended the reach of those who seek to threaten Americans at home," Cohen said. "In joining this new mission area for the Reserve and Guard, the JWRAC will help us defend against thos who would turn our technological superiority against us."
The JWRAC will scour Defense Web sites for information and trends of data that could be used to breach security or pose a threat to Defense operations and personnel. In addition, team members will evaluate Web site content to ensure compliance with deparmental policies, procedures and best practices.
The new organization is a result of a Sep. 24, 1998 directive from John J. Hamre, deputy secretary of Defense, to Charles L. Cragin, acting assistant secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, and Gen. Henry H. Shelton, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staf. Hamre directed that they jointly develop a plan that uses Reserve forces personnel to conduct operations security and threat assessments of DefenseLINK and other official military Web sites.
"This initiative represents both a new model and a Total Force solution for managing operations security in an environment of rapidly changing technology," Dr. Hamre said. "It is essential that each of the military components and agencies get on board so that we can expedite the implementation of JWRAC and help it fulfill its important mission."
Six Reserve component Services will staff the cell, with a full-time officer and enlisted member rotating among the military Reserve components on an equitable basis. The 20 drilling Reserve component positions will be comprised as follows: Army NationalGuard, five officers, three enlisted; Army Reserve, three officers, two enlisted; Naval Reserve, two officers; Marine Corps Reserve, one officer; Air National Guard, two officers, one enlisted; and Air Force Reserve, one enlisted.
"With the battlefields of tomorrow moving increasingly into cyberspace, this is a significant advancement in our efforts to assess risks and reduce our exposure to cyberterrorism," Cragin said. "The Reserve and National Guard are ideally suited for this ask, because they have a large pool of talented personnel who in their civilian careers are highly adept at using computer systems and information technology."
The military services will recruit personnel for the JWRAC who have a broad range of combat and non-combat specialties, in addition to high-tech civilian skills. The two full-time staff will provide day-to-day administrative support, perform operational cheduling and ensure that training and technical proficiency is maintained. The JWRAC will be co-located with DISA.
For more information, call Lt. Col. Terry Jones at the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, (703) 695-3620, or visit the Reserve Affairs website at www.raweb.osd.mil.

10.) ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Five surgeons are discussing what career group make the best patients
The first surgeon says, "I like to see accountants on my operating table, because when you open them up, everything inside is numbered."
The second responds, "Yeah, but you should try electricians!  Everything inside them is color coded."
The third surgeon says, "No, I really think librarians are the best; everything inside them is in alphabetical order."
The fourth surgeon chimes in: "You know, I like construction workers...
those guys always understand when you have a few parts left over at the end, and when the job takes longer than you said it would."
But the fifth surgeon shut them all up when he observed: "You're all wrong.
Politicians are the easiest to operate on. There's no guts, no heart, and no spine, and the head and ass are interchangeable."
RE:  Chuckle
TOP TEN REASONS GOD CREATED EVE.....
   10. God worried that Adam would always be lost in the garden because men hate to ask for directions.
      9. God knew that Adam would one day need someone to hand him the TV remote.
(Men don't want to see what's ON television, they want to see WHAT ELSE is on!)
      8. God knew that Adam would never buy a new fig leaf when his wore out and would therefore needed Eve to get one for him.
     7. God knew that Adam would never make a doctor's appointment for himself.
     6. God knew that Adam would never remember which night was garbage night.
      5. God knew that if the world was to be populated, men would never be able to handle childbearing.
      4. As "Keeper of the Garden," Adam would never remember where he put his tools.
      3. The scripture account of creation indicates Adam needed someone to blame his troubles on when  God caught him hiding in the garden.
     2. As the Bible says, "It is not good for man to be alone!"
  AND THE NUMBER ONE REASON GOD CREATED EVE........
      1. When God finished the creation of Adam, He stepped back, scratched His head and said, "I can do better than that!"
