From: WWJohnston

Subject: 75th Div newsline no. 12, 5 April 1998 - Grand Halleux

There is a very good 150 page book, in French, about the Bulge at Grand
Halleux, called "Mon Village dans la Tourmente: Grand Halleux Déc. 44 -

Vallée de la Salm - Janv. 45" by Paul Dropsy. It includes the military
activities as well as the accounts of the civilians.

I purchased a copy when I was in Belgium in December 1994. I think I
found it in a bookstore in Vielsalm or possibly in Malmédy. It was 750
BFr.

Dear Rolf :
Just discovered your page. Actually no. 1 son did it. I am a vet of the
75th from March 1944 to the end of our adventure. Went to 75th from
ASTP (Army Specialized Training Program), City College of New York. By
train to Camp Polk, La. Assigned to K Co., 4th platoon 60 mm mortar
squad. Maneuvers there then on to Fort Breckenridge, Ky. until fall.
During summer volunteered for Batallion Intelligence Section. And so
ended up with buddies in K and Hq. Co., 3rd batt., 290th Regt. I would
love to hear from anyone whose paths I have crossed. The last few years
I have been searching for buddies. From my section i found that Eugene
"Pollock" Jacyna died approx 1987 in Livonia, Mi. He entered the
service from Binghampton, NY. I found Albert M. Dropping {Drop}, in the
spring of 96 and had a chance to visit him in the hospital in Lansing,
Mi. Drop was the old man in the section. He would have been 77 on Dec.
7 but died in Nov. 1996.
Drop had led me to Walter P. "Red" Bloecher. Red had a brain tumor . I
did get to talk with him several times. He send me a voluminous account
of our sections history and travels from Breckenridge on. Red died on
april 1, 1997 in Doylestown, Pa. I, unknowingly, called his home from
about 30 miles away on April 4th which is my birthday and was the 51st
Anniversary of the day in 1945 when Red received his Bronze Star.
I was going to surprise him. I miss them. A big part of me has gone
with them, Red left me with a lot of info on our European
travels........names of towns and dates which I had forgotten. However,
what may be of interest to you, Rolf, is that my unit was stationed in
Hemer and my section was billeted in the Grohe mansion, which
I understand was donated to the Red Cross several years ago.
Didn't mean to go on so, but once I got started .... you know.
Enough for now.
I didn"t want to be a lurker.

           Regards,
           John N. "Mac" McDevitt

can contact you.

3.) With a seperate email, I will send you our latest newsletter, which
contains informations about the next NEC-meeting and the reunion of the

Would you please send me your complete adress with phone and fax number

-----------------------------

Dear Mr. Searcy,

with a seperate email, I'll send you our past issue of the newsline no.
10. In that, you'll find all informations about the 75th Div videos.

You will also find the adress of the president of the 75th Div vets
assn, if you or your father want to get more informations about the
association.

In Houston, TX, the 75th Div has a museum, and there they show a little
video to guests regarding the history of the 75th Div. I dont know if
that film is for sale, please also ask the president.

Maybe it would also be interesting to visit the next 75th Div Reunion in
Spokane, WA. Please take a look on our homepage at:
www.mknet.de/75th for more details.

I hope, I could help you a bit with these informations. I will take you
also in the distribution list for our free email newsline, so you will
be informed about developments in the old and new 75th Division.

Thank you for the reply. My father died in 1965. I do a lot of
genealogy work.
I am very interested in the 75th Infantry. My father came over in Feb
of 1945.
I am not sure at what point (where/time) he actually joined the
fighting, just that it was sometime in Feb/Mar of 1945. I saw the
reunion for Spokane, WA.
I was interested, but the place/time makes it impossible to attend. I
would hope that descendants could attend these reunions. I will
continue to see where the reunions are held in the future and maybe I
will get to attend one.
I would love to talk to some of the veterans of the 75th.
Thanks you for your time,

Ron Searcy }:>

4.) Battlefield Tour in Belgium

Date: Sat, 18 Apr 1998 13:05:30 -0400
From: "JAMES F. LOVE"
subject: Battlefield Tours

We will be in Belgium on 5-22, 23 and 24-98 (Friday, Saturday and
Sunday)and are looking to tour battlefield areas, hopefully places that
the 75th went through.

Are there people who conduct such tours or people with maps and
directions that we could contact? Also we would be interested in
locating the military cemetaries in the area since we area trying to
locate the grave of Melvin E. McNew (75th Div., 291st Reg., Co. C) who
was killed 12-30-44 near Vaux Chavanne. So far we have been unable to
locate any information on where he might be buried.

Thanks for your help.

5.) Where to buy a flag of the 75th Division ?

Dear veterans and friends of the 75th Div,
have you ever wanted to raise the flag of the 75th Div in front of your
house or display it in your memories room ? Do you maybe already have a
flag ?

Why I am asking: We are looking for a 75th flag for our flag pole.
One prize quote is from the company Capitol Flag Co., Inc. (Texas
Largest Flag House), Houston, TX.
The price for a 6 x 9 sewn nylon flag with a 75th Div shield is:
Single construction: $ 325, double construction: $ 450.
Because we are not sponsored by anyone, this is more than we could
afford.

The questions are:
Does anybody on this list have a better source for a 75th Div flag ?

Who else would like to have a flag ?
Please contact us for more informations, thanks !
