2.) Where to buy a flag of the 75th Division ?

Dear veterans and friends of the 75th Div,

have you ever wanted to raise the flag of the 75th Div in front of your
house or display it in your memories room ? Do you maybe already have a
flag ?

Why I am asking: I have a deserted flag pole in front of my house (and
home of the 75th Div homepage) in Plettenberg, Westphalia, Germany.
(Plettenberg was the last command post of the 75th Div HQ from 20 April
to 6 June 1945)

My neighbors around raise german flags, pirate flags, bavarian flags and
so on. I just have two american flags: One original of the US Coast
guard, that I recieved about 20 years ago as a gift from the personell
of a USCG base, when I was living on the island of Sylt, Germany. The
other one is an old and worn out stars and stripes. (Colour almost faded
out)

I thought now, that I would be nice to have one of the 75th Div and
asked around.
One prize quote is from the company „Capitol Flag Co., Inc. (Texas
Largest Flag House), Houston, TX.
The price for a 6 x 9 sewn nylon flag with a 75th Div shield is:
Single construction: $ 325, double construction: $ 450.
Because we are not sponsored by anyone, this is more than we could
afford.

The question is:
Does anybody on this list have a better source for a 75th Div flag ?
We can offer the flag-producing-company, to place their adress for free
on our 75th Div homepage and would publish it in our newsline. (We made
this proposal to the Texas company, but got no response). Maybe this
free advertising would also lower the prize.

Who else would like to have a flag ? The more we are, the more
interesting it will be for the producer. (Maybe somebody could also
write about it in the Bulgebuster, the official newsletter of the 75th
Div.) Who has connections and can ask around in the States ?

By the way:
There is a Coral Draw CD-Rom on the market, that contains little
clippings. One of them is the old patch of the 75th, one the new („make
ready"). Maybe this would help a supplier to produce a low prize flag.

Any information will be helpful and published in the next newsline.
Thanks in advance for your help !

3.) Interesting book about Infantry Divisions, including 75th Div !

From: "greg underwood"
subject: Pearl of a book on 75th and Other Divisions
Date: Fri, 20 Mar 1998 08:26:24 PST

Dear Sirs, I found a pearl of a book on the 75th infantry division
which probably you might be unaware of. My Dad fought with the 36th and
I found this Story some time ago and it was excellent. The US Morale
Services Division published it "GI Stories of ground, air, and service
forces in European Theatre of Operations, Infantry Divisions. It has
1st, 2-3-4-28-29-35-36-45-70-75-78-80-84-87-89-94-95-97-99-100-104-and
106th divisions' stories. Call number is W109.202 IN3 US Doc in the
government documents section of the Kansas City Library in K.C.,
Missouri. My father fought in the Colmar Pocket with the 36th division
and the 75th fought there also with a good description along with the
28th, 3rd, 103rd, 63rd, 14th and 12th Armored right off the top of my
head. This is an excellent series and there are Stories on Bombardment,
Armored Divisions etc. It really allows you to focus on an area and see
the big picture as all of the divisions were being switched around
geographically. Have an extensive bibliography on books about the Colmar

Pocket. If interested inquire at GregColmar@hotmail.com Thanks, Greg
Underwood

4.) First hand accounts of the Battle of Grand Halleux

Date: Wed, 25 Mar 98 15:00:41 -0500
From: "Stephen M. Graber"

By the way, in your next newsletter, I was wondering if you could ask
the readers for first hand accounts of the Battle of Grand Halleux.

That battle took place on Jan. 15th and 16th of 1945. I can accept
them at my email address (mtnview1@worldnet.att.net) or they can send
them to me through the mail. My address is below. Do you have contact
to German veterans that fought against the 75th? Or fought in the
Battle of Grand Halleux?

   Steve Graber

     Thank you.

Please add him to your newsletter distribution list.

Hope all is well with the family, give them my regards.

(From the moderator: Joseph D. Karr sr. was a member of the 167th Signal
Photo Company. While in and around Plettenberg, Germany in 1945, he took
a lot of famous photos of soldiers of the 75th Division. The other
soldiers of his combat unit took motion pictures of the 75th Div,
especially during the 1 May 1945 celebration in the POW camp Stalag 6 A
in Hemer near Iserlohn, including Gen. Porter and Gen. Mickle. Mr. Karr
took photos there and has video copies of that films in USA.)

7.) NEC meeting in Peoria, IL !

The place for the next NEC meeting is at:

Date: 15 April – 19 April

Place: Holiday Inn City Centre
           500 Hamilton Blvd.
           Peoria, IL 61602
 Phone: 1-800-474-2501
             309-674-2500
 Fax: 309-674-1205

What is NEC ?
75th Div Veterans Association secretary Jim Warmouth:
„Periodically I answer this question because we are continually finding
new members who may not know.
NEC stands for NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE. This is a board consisting
of 5 elected members and 2 Presidential Appointees. They are listed on
page 2 of every Bulge Buster. Also included are your elected officers
and all Past Presidents. The function of these fine people is to review
anything submitted on our Agenda to decide if it has merit to be passed
to the General Assembly for your vote. To my knowledge in serving you in
various offices for 43 yrs nothing has been refused consideration. These
officers serve without compensation of any kind. If you have suggestions
you want brought to the General Assembly for a vote, simply submit it to
any of them verbally or in writing. You are invited to N.E.C. meetings
but only officers may vote. At Peoria this year we have a lot of
important matters to decide on . There will be 150 or so attending.
Please join us. THIS IS YOUR BUSINESS."

(From the moderator: )
Dear Mr. President Stephan,
because we have a lot of veterans on this list, that are not yet members
of the Association, please let me quote you on the theme above:

„...come join us and enjoy the comraderie that we share with each other.
The more meetings you attend, the more friends you will make, giving you
a more contended feeling when you return home".(Paul C. Stephan,
President) End of quote.

Anybody on this list interested in the 75th Div vets assn, please
contact President Stephan. You´ll find his adress below.
