Special
newsline # 8 - America will Attack
Dear friends !
Before I take a last watch on TV tonight to see what new developments
are, here the latest messages from our readers.
By the way: Does somebody know where I can get a small US flag to mount
on the antenna of my 4 x 4 duty truck ? I know it will be difficult
in USA, but it is even more difficult here.
Please also tell me what I can do from here. My way to help is to spread
informations under the readers of this newsline. If you have anything,
that others should read or see (pictures), please send it to me. Feel free
to spread all our special newslines to whoever you want. If you missed
an issue, tell me, I will send it to you. (If you send in pictures, please
in jpeg-format).
Please send messages only to: mkw-detective@t-online.de, not as a response
to the outgoing email adress.
*Keep five yards.
(*Means spread out so one round won't get us all.)
Greetings from Germany

Re: 75th Inf Div special newsline # 3 - America under Attack
To the men (and the friends and family) of the 75th:
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and prayers in these terrible days. My dad is a proud member of the 75th and it hurts me to see him sitting in front of the TV and wiping the tears from his eyes as we watch the horror unfold.
On the other hand, I'm heartened to see people giving blood, supporting the Red Cross and Salvation Army, seeing young people enlisting, and know that most of the American people are united in these tough times.
Hang in there all of you, and God bless America.

15 Sept 2001 -- As all Americans know, the President has asked for and the Congress has approved virtually any and all measures necessary. Our President stated this morning: "This is War." Personally, we would have preferred an official declaration of war be declared by Congress. Not another Gulf of Tonkin-type resolution which preceded the large scale buildup in Vietnam...
As the President and Cabinet officials have pointed out this will be a protracted struggle. Americans - including corporate America - must be absolutely resolved through the coming months - possibly even years - to support this mission, to be prepared to make personal sacrifices, and above all be patient, and to be prepared mentally for the possibility of further terrorist attacks here in the United States or abroad. Today's announced large layoffs by major airlines is not exactly "standing tall" in our humble opinion... Corporate America must be willing to make sacrifices also! This is not "business as usual" and the government should take steps to insure that corporate America does NOT take advantage of us during this struggle and just one of the reasons we prefer a declaration of war vs a resolution.
We believe America is at a crossroads. Standing together along with other nations who have also lost citizens in these and other terrorist attacks, this is a struggle we all - civilian and military alike - must engage in together.
During this struggle we must not become fractured internally as happened during the Vietnam war. Conversely our leaders must be very honest with the public at the appropriate times unlike the years of deception during that war. And we all must strive to make certain that our missions are not compromised by those in high level positions, intelligence message traffic or in the news media for the sake of instant news. This requires trust and we pray that our leadership will lead us in this struggle with much thought and guidance and complete honesty regarding the personal sacrifices which will be required of us in this struggle for freedom around the world.
There is no doubt America's will and resolve will be tested! The enemy to free people around the world is even more elusive than the enemy in the jungles of Southeast Asia. Ground forces will be required to find them. High tech so-called "smart bombs" and cruise missiles alone will not find the enemy alone! There certainly will be casualties both military and civilian in this struggle on both sides. We must be strong and unwavering and above all, absolutely united in this effort or we will fail.
As we see it, this is a struggle for our children's and grandchildren's
future. A future of freedom and security as we have been privileged to
have, or a future of fear, less freedom and despair.... We must be as resolute
and prepared to make personal sacrifices as the "greatest generation" that
vanquished the massive threat to freedom during WWII. This is of course
a different war, but war is war. Lives will be lost, both military and
civilian. That is a fact of war as terrible as it always is. And why war
should be avoided unless absolutely necessary. Unfortunately this war was
brought to us. And we must rise, united, to this attack on our way of life.
If we as Americans are not prepared to make personal sacrifices then
we should surrender our very freedoms to the terrorists before moving forward
in this struggle. America cannot expect its soldiers to fight this war
abroad while we find fault at home... As in previous struggles, military
mistakes were made during those struggles, but it was freedom loving people's
unwavering resolve and courage that won the struggle. Battles were lost,
but victory was assured because of that unwavering commitment.
As the months and possibly years of struggle await us, remember the thousands who perished on Sept. 11th. And that the terrorists attacked us here on American soil. This will give us courage and resolve in times when some will certainly question the casualties, missions and methods used in this struggle.... We must not let such voices divide us or weaken our resolve we all feel this day as the recovery efforts in New York and at the Pentagon continue, and as America begins to bury those who were murdered in the airliners that were hijacked and the thousands murdered and the survivors forever changed in these barbaric attacks on our nation for the sole purpose of taking innocent lives and to strike fear in our hearts and minds.
We must not fail. And our leadership - both military, civilian and intelligence agencies - must not deceive or betray our trust us as it did during the war in Vietnam or America as we have known it, will not survive...
God Bless,
Roger & Pam Young

We hadbeen to the 75th reunion in Denver from Sept 2 to 12th and stranded when attack occurred. We stayed with my friend and former comrade in arms in thebeautiful Rocky Mountains. Managed to get a train reservations for Thursday, the 13th. Consequently our DSL E-mail machine was overloaded. Was fortunate to get the #1 msg alright. Appreciate the trouble you had getting through the message. Regards, "Turk"

It was very difficult to accept that this attack actually happened and
after the shock and grief came rage. The present condition is a grave danger
for citizens of many many countries. The solution is extremely difficult
but the USA does not give up. The dichotomy is that the cowardly
act of murder unites the USA as one determined and angry nation.

but expect to use computor E-mail soon .

I am trying to find any information regarding PFC James W Haggerty 36 623 271 Headquarters Company, First Battalion, 291st Infantry involving military operations from 4 February 1945 to 6 February 1945 in which he received the Bronze Star. If it's possible I would also be interested in a list of personnel still living that may have additional information regarding Pfc Haggerty.
Thanks for any info you can provide.

Germany calls for 'measured response'
September 16, 2001 Posted: 1:17 PM EDT (1717 GMT)
BERLIN, Germany -- Germany's President Johannes Rau has said that he
does not expect the German army will take part in a military reponse to
the terror attacks in the U.S.
"My impression is that it is not called for, rather what is required
is support of a logistic nature," Rau said in an interview with German
radio on Sunday.
Rau said the people responsible for the attacks on the World Trade
Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington should be found and brought
before a court.
"This is an attack on the whole of civilisation...Therefore we must
react with civil means."
German Defence Minister Rudolf Scharping has urged a "measured response" to the terrorist attacks.
German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer stresses that political responses should be considered alongside military action if existing conflicts were not to be heightened.
On Wednesday, NATO invoked Article Five, ist mutual defence clause,
for the first time in ist 52-year history.
The move was seen as opening the way for a possible collective response
by the alliance, which includes Germany, to the attacks.
Scharping has said the first decisions about German participation in possible U.S. military retaliation would be made in the next few days.
The German government requires parliamentary approval each time it deploys troops outside the country, unlike most NATO members, whose governments have the final say.
Earlier on Sunday, UK Prime Minister Tony Blair said Europe "will stand with America on this."
In an interview with CNN, Blair said he had spoken to French President
Jacques Chirac on Saturday, as well as Russian President Vladimir Putin
and Arab leaders.
He said he also been involved in recent days in talks with his Swedish,
Spanish, Irish and German counterparts.
Blair, supporting President George W. Bush's claim that war had been
declared, said: "I think the whole of the civilised world will stand together…I
can assure you, I think, that whole of Europe will stand with America on
this.
"People know that what happened was not just aimed at America, it was
aimed at all of us."
He added: "I think that support will be there not just because of people's
sense of horror and outrage at what has happened but also because of their
realisation that unless we take action we are all at risk.
"So it is right for reasons of justice but it is also right for reasons
of self-protection."
On Wednesday Blair will fly to Berlin for talks with Germany's Chancellor
Gerhard Schroeder.
French President Jacques Chirac has told CNN: "When it comes to punishing this murderous folly, France will be at the side of the United States."
On Saturday, Spain's Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar reiterated Spain's
support of the U.S.
Aznar expressed "solidarity with the United States" in a telephone
conversation with the American president, hours after he visited the U.S
embassy and signed in the condolescence book for the victims.
But despite NATO's invocation of Article Five, there is unease among some European politicians.
Alain Richard, the French defence minister, said the NATO move was a "political declaration" and refused to use the word war to describe the attacks on the U.S.
Germany's Scharping also insisted: "We do not face a war."
CNN's European Political Editor Robin Oakley said: "No allies are likely to oppose a U.S. strikeback against known terrorists who have been linked to the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks.
"Where differences may emerge among potential allies is over the treatment
of countries suspected of harbouring terrorists."
