Special newsline # 4  - America under Attack

Dear friends !

As far as the we can see, we are on the edge of a new conflict, I would not call it a war yet. Something will happen, as soon as a clear target is identified. Iīm sure than a lot of things are happening at the moment, that CNN is not reporting about at the moment.

I still have messages from the original goal of this list, regarding the past of the 75th Inf Div, but I think our future is more important at the moment. As soon as things cool down, I will get back to the memories of WWII. Letīs hope we will not have memories of WWIII.

Rolf,

Here are the words to a song by Garth Brooks.  It should speak for us all.

                    The Change

One hand reaches out, and pulls a lost soul from harm
While a thousand more, go unspoken for and they say what good have you done, by saving just this one?

It's like whispering a prayer in the fury of a storm.
And I hear them saying, you'll never change things...
But no matter what you do, it's still the same thing;
But it's not the world that I am changing, I do this so, this world will know, that it will not change me.

This heart, still believes that love and mercy still exist.
While all the hatreds rage and so many say that love is all but pointless in madness such as this.

It's like trying to stop the fire with the moisture from a kiss
And I hear them saying, You'll never change things...
And no matter what you do it's still the same thing.
But it's not the world that I am changing, I do this so this world will know, that it will not change me.

As long as one heart still holds on, then hope is never really gone.
And I hear them saying, you'll never change things...
And no matter what you do it's still the same thing.
But it's not the world that I am changing...

I do this so, this world we know, never changes me...

What I do is so, this world will know that it will not change me.

Rolf:
Thank you so much for your emails. I was in Montreal when the attacks occurred, and came back to NYC as soon as the border reopened. At least three friends are "known" to have been in the WTC and are now missing and of course presumed dead. It's likely, as I get in touch with everyone, that I'll discover more friends and colleagues lost in the WTC complex. It seems that everyone that I know lost someone in one of the attacks.

Many federal l.e.o. offices were in the WTC buildings, and many great Americans.

You have no idea how much the overseas support from NATO, Israel, Canada, Australia, etc. is appreciated. It was incredible, as I drove through Montreal, to see every Canadian and Quebec provincial flag at half staff in solidarity with America.

Fw: A good reminder... America the Beautiful
Date: Thu, 13 Sep 2001 11:23:06 -0400

America The Beautiful
We all still live in the greatest country in the world and sometimes we forget what we have worked so hard for.

This, from a Canadian newspaper, is worth sharing.

America: The Good Neighbor.
Widespread but only partial news coverage was given Recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record:

"This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth.

Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States.

When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.

When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped.

The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans.

I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10? If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes?

Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles.

You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon - not once, but several times - and safely home again.

You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at . Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here.

When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke.

I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake.

Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those."

Stand proud, America!

This is one of the best editorials that I have ever read regarding the United States. It is nice that one man realizes it. I only wish that the rest of the world would realize it. We are always blamed for everything, and never even get a thank you for the things we do.

I would hope that each of you would send this to as many people as you can and emphasize that they should send it to as many of their friends until this letter is sent to every person on the web. I am just a single American that has read this.
I SURE HOPE THAT A LOT MORE READ IT SOON

RE:    Many thanks ...

Dear Rolf:

I want to thank you for your support in this time of trouble. No words can begin to express the feelings of outrage I feel towards those responsible for the cowardly attack on my country. Nor can words express my gratitude for those, like you, who rally to our cause.

I am part of the generation that has too often taken for granted the freedom afforded to every American. At age 46, the son of a world war two veteran, I grew up in a safe place. Even during the cold war, and the conflict in Vietnam, my home was a country where I knew I was protected by brave me and women who would willingly fight and die to protect my freedoms.

Often I have heard the statement ... " I may not agree with what you say, but I'd fight to the death for your right to say it."  I've never been called upon to take up this never ending fight. Nor am I likely to have the opportunity. I can only stand in awe of those who have fought in the past, and those who take up the battle now on the behalf of the people of the United States, and the freedom loving peoples of the world.

The letter posted by Samuel G. Thrasher in this forum contained an open letter to terrorists from a career military man that said it best.

It's not the fact that we live in America that makes us Americans. It's the fact that America lives in us. I had never thought of it quite that way before, and I find myself a little ashamed that it took such an event to bring it home to me. But it is, has always been, and will always be the indomitable spirit of Americans everywhere the will overcome the attacks from any, and every enemy.

    God bless America.

RE:      WAR???

Friends
Whatever happens now,The American people are going to demand a change in our foreign policy. And more changes in this country now.
The regulations by the FAA were largely ignored by the airlines.their profits were more important than the safety of the public.
In the name of profit by the builders of modern buildings inferior products are being used in construction.Hence the loss in the Twin Towers.
With a declaration of war.Clauses in all Insurance policy's will prohibit the payment of damages to the victims of this and other disasters that are in the future.Billions of dollars are at stake now.
Our government State and Federal should immediately correct these overlooked and hidden problems for the good of the country.

We can't continue making the same mistakes over and over.No body wanted to talk the German problems over with Hitler. And he had legitimate reasons to begin with. The US,and GB,controlled all the trade in the far East.Japan sent envoys to talk over their problems and to get permission sell their products on world markets. When there was no response  [Pearl Harbor ] was bombed. That got our attention, millions died and looking at the results I'd say Japan won.

I think we better sit down and find out why the terrorists are trying to get our attention now. Can't we call a United Nation enforced meeting with the Governments that protect terrorists and try to find out why we are being singled out for attack?
We are certainly strong enough to blow a country like Afghanistan off the map.How many of our own people will we lose? Will the terrorists continue from other Muslim controlled country's?
At one time the oceans were our protection.Emigrant's entering this country came through ports of entry and were approved for entry or sent back home. Now a person can get on a plane any where in the world and without problems arrive in any American city.Do you feel safe with such a policy? Of course this type policy change could threaten the airlines profits.

We have not won a conflict since 1945.Why?Are we the ones who are wrong? Are we going to buy trillions of dollars of weapons from the armaments industry, when a few conferences can settle our problems? Those who demand war are the ones who will profit from the conflict. They have never walked a battlefield and seen death.

Thanks again for all of your support.  May the Lord bless you as well as those who are experiencing this first hand.

Many of you have written back after my eMail yesterday. Thanks to all of you.

More:
A German SWAT team has arrested people in Hamburg that are possibly involved in this act of terror. The two arab guys that attended the Florida flight school came from there, they had German passes and spoke good German. Maybe the attack was partly planned in Germany. I canīt believe it.

I have attached three 75th Infantry Division eMail newsletters. They were prepared by Rolf Wilmink, a German. He also runs the 75th ID homepage at: http://www.plbg.de/75th/index.htm I thought you want to take a look at the newsletters.

Today I came back from a press job and I came through Erpel and saw the Remagen Bridge towers on the other side of the Rhine. I made my photo and it doesnīt need any more words. See attached .jpg

Subject: Re: Attack on America - a personal note

As much as an idealist as I try to be, and observe higher ethical principals - I've got to unreservedly agree with you. The moment the terrorists seized control, the airplanes became one of the most power and deadly missiles that can be devised, guided by human intelligence and hatred. The strike was aimed at our hearts, intended to deliver a crippling wound and change the nature of the free society that we live in. Good shot. But "they" seriously under-estimated the psych of the American spirit, and they will discover just how much that mistake will cost.

To those that declared this war and master minded the opening attack, and those that tacitly gave their approval, provided sanctuary and personally benefited from these despicable animals, need only the "justice-given" that they gave to the innocents on Tuesday. Accordingly, our reaction needs to be overwhelmingly swift and terrible, and utterly through in its reach across the terrorism world.

I trust that our friends and allies, everywhere will support us, but this is a retribution the US is entitled to exact alone. World politics be damned - I want our government to know without doubt who was responsible - then act and act without hesitation.

From the Moderator of the cybercrime list:

I lost two personal friends who were NYC police officers on Tuesday in the WTC collapse. The town I live in outside NYC has lost 12 NYC firefighters... I have heard estimates of 12K-20K dead in NYC alone.

I reiterate... This is NOT the time to be politically correct... This is a time for our elected leaders to do their job... The vast majority of Americans according to a Harris poll demand immediate decisive military action even if it means WAR... George Dubya should make it very clear... You are either WITH us or you are AGAINST us... and then FLATTEN the countries that harbor these terrorists... Yes... FLATTEN the ENTIRE country...

We failed to do this AFTER they bombed the WTC the first time... We failed to do this AFTER they bombed the USS COLE... We failed to do this AFTER they bombed our embassies... Now they have hit our homeland...

HAD our elected leaders done their job AT THE TIME perhaps this horror would not have occured...

Is there any doubt in anyone's mind that if these guys had suitcase nukes or biological agents we would be in a lot worse shape right now?

I say don't give them the chance... and make sure there is no one left to avenge their deaths...
