Special newsline # 10  - America will Attack

Dear friends !

In the german TV was a report about that suizide killers. Interesting was, that the parents of each of that killers get 15,000 Dollars from Saddam Hussein. So, he seems to be back in the race (or in our crosshairs).

Investigators found, that the HQ of the terrorists seem to be in Frankfurt, Germany. They identified a car dealer from Lebanon as a contact person there. Frankfurt is about 2 hours away from my place.

Tomorrow, I pick up my bulletproof vest. (Somebody got an adress for a kevlar helmet ?)

Please also tell me what I can do from here. My way to help is to spread informations under the readers of this newsline. If you have anything, that others should read or see (pictures), please send it to me. Feel free to spread all our special newslines to whoever you want. If you missed an issue, tell me, I will send it to you. (If you send in pictures, please in jpeg-format).
Please send messages only to: mkw-detective@t-online.de, not as a response to the outgoing email adress.

*Keep five yards.
(*Means spread out so one round won't get us all.)

RE:    An Eye for an Eye.

Rolf --

Someone on another list brought up an interesting point today . . .

They had been to a church service over the weekend, when the old phrase . . . "an eye for an eye" was discussed.

I've always thought -- and apparently they always thought -- that the phrase was an encouragement (or at least a rationale -- or a justification) for violence.

While that may be true, the story from this person's church was that the phrase actually originated in a very violent time -- and was offered as a sort of admonition against EXCESSIVE violence.  As in . . . when an eye is sometime avenged with MORE than an eye, as so often, revenge seems to escalate to higher and higher levels as it goes back & forth.

So the originator was recommending (apparently) to be CAREFUL with vengence -- and to avenge an eye with JUST another eye . . . and no more.

We've just lost 5,000 plus people, mostly civilians -- a horrendous loss by any standard.  And our country is not going to sit still for it. Understood.
I think we all understand.

Yet we're mobilizing the entire military -- and expect to put the fear of God (and possibly even more than that) into the hearts of whoever was behind this recent and unprovoked terrorism -- and I think the implication is that the revenge we're seeking (certainly threatening) -- in whatever ways it might finally manifest itself -- will take a far greater toll on our enemy than they have taken (so far) on us.

We don't know what their numbers are -- I wonder if anyone knows.  But the person who wrote this logic was speculating -- in this case -- whether any thought has been given to avenging our loss on some more LIMITED basis . . . more in keeping with just what we ourselves have suffered . . .
rather than escalating the damage -- as is the usual implication.

I thought it was a very interesting premise.

Best --

Sir:
I visited your website and found it to be very inspiring. I recently was medically retired after Proudly serving 19.5 years in the US Navy. I am currently working with the military as a military training analyst. I am also an author and wrote the following in respect to the attack on my Country. Your website was inspiring and I thank you.

We Will Stand

I have felt the sting of battle,
been among my friends that fell.
Trembled at the glaring trumpets,
seen of horrors I cannot tell.

Proudly I served for the colors,
Old Glory, RED, WHITE & BLUE.
Not one time did I regret or falter,
to my country I remained true.

I have looked into the eyes of heroes,
veterans of wars gone by.
Felt the tears that streaked there hearts,
could not look them in the eye.

Now a time has come once more,
when evil in our midst does roam.
This time fires fell on our country,
this time on our very home.

We have not time to ponder,
we have time not to waste,
Let our enemies take heed,
Vengeance comes not in haste.

There were screams, angels falling,
tears like rivers from many eyes.
Let each angel put on armor,
let each one line the sky.

For now our pride and our honor,
as thunder and lightening in the night.
Shall be seen as risen Angels
seek vengeance in our fight.

America the proud, the brave,
once again shall stand tall.
For at our feet shall be our foes,
for I promise, each one shall fall.

Feel free to use this or forward it to whom you may think may want to read it.

respectfully,

I, like many Americans, have always been skeptical of how the rest of the world regards my country.  This website brings the world's grief to my doorstep and I am truly humbled at their level of caring.

Howdy!

I have included more photos. These are NOT my work. Just to show you that radical events provoke all possible reactions.

Here you will find more photos with worldwide reactions: http://www.fatwallet.com/thankyou.htm

Many views do appear. Here´re two more I have received:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

A sobering essay forwarded by a UC Berkeley professor:
Dear Friends,
The following was sent to me by my friend Tamim Ansary. Tamim is an Afghani-American writer. He is also one of the most brilliant people I know in this life. When he writes, I read. When he talks, I listen. Here is his take on Afghanistan and the whole mess we are in.

Dear Gary and whoever else is on this email thread:
I've been hearing a lot of talk about "bombing Afghanistan back to the Stone Age." Ronn Owens, on KGO Talk Radio today, allowed that this would mean killing innocent people, people who had nothing to do with this atrocity, but "we're at war, we have to accept collateral damage. What else can we do?" Minutes later I heard some TV pundit discussing whether we "have the belly to do what must be done."
And I thought about the issues being raised especially hard because I am from Afghanistan, and even though I've lived here for 35 years I've never lost track of what's going on there. So I want to tell anyone who will listen how it all looks from where I'm standing.
I speak as one who hates the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden. There is no doubt in my mind that these people were responsible for the atrocity in New York. I agree that something must be done about those monsters.
But the Taliban and Ben Laden are not Afghanistan. They're not even the government of Afghanistan. The Taliban are a cult of ignorant psychotics who took over Afghanistan in 1997. Bin Laden is a political criminal with a plan. When you think Taliban, think Nazis. When you think Bin Laden, think Hitler. And when you think "the people of Afghanistan" think "the Jews in the concentration camps." It's not only that the Afghan people had nothing to do with this atrocity. They were the first victims of the perpetrators. They would exult if someone would come in there, take out the Taliban and clear out the rats nest of international thugs holed up in their country.
Some say, why don't the Afghans rise up and overthrow the Taliban? The answer is, they're starved, exhausted, hurt, incapacitated, suffering. A few years ago, the United Nations estimated that there are 500,000 disabled orphans in Afghanistan--a country with no economy, no food.
There are millions of widows. And the Taliban has been burying these
widows alive in mass graves. The soil is littered with land mines, the farms were all destroyed by the Soviets. These are a few of the reasons why the Afghan people have not overthrown the Taliban.
We come now to the question of bombing Afghanistan back to the Stone Age. Trouble is, that's been done. The Soviets took care of it already.
Make the Afghans suffer? They're already suffering. Level their houses?
Done. Turn their schools into piles of rubble? Done. Eradicate their hospitals? Done. Destroy their infrastructure? Cut them off from medicine and health care? Too late. Someone already did all that.
New bombs would only stir the rubble of earlier bombs. Would they at least get the Taliban? Not likely. In today's Afghanistan, only the Taliban eat, only they have the means to move around. They'd slip away and hide. Maybe the bombs would get some of those disabled orphans, they don't move too fast, they don't even have wheelchairs. But flying over Kabul and dropping bombs wouldn't really be a strike against the criminals who did this horrific thing. Actually it would only be making common cause with the Taliban--by raping once again the people they've been raping all this time So what else is there? What can be done, then? Let me now speak with true fear and trembling. The only way to get Bin Laden is to go in there with ground troops.
When people speak of "having the belly to do what needs to be done" they're thinking in terms of having the belly to kill as many as needed. Having the belly to overcome any moral qualms about killing innocent people. Let's pull our heads out of the sand. What's actually on the table is Americans dying. And not just because some Americans would die fighting their way through Afghanistan to Bin Laden's hideout. It's much bigger than that folks. Because to get any troops to Afghanistan, we'd have to go through Pakistan. Would they let us? Not likely. The conquest of Pakistan would have to be first. Will other Muslim nations just stand by? You see where I'm going. We're flirting with a world war between Islam and the West.
And guess what: that's Bin Laden's program. That's exactly what he wants. That's why he did this. Read his speeches and statements. It's all right there. He really believes Islam would beat the west. It might seem ridiculous, but he figures if he can polarize the world into Islam and the West, he's got a billion soldiers. If the west wreaks a holocaust in those lands, that's a billion people with nothing left to lose, that's even better from Bin Laden's point of view. He's probably wrong, in the end the west would win, whatever that would mean, but the war would last for years and millions would die, not just theirs but ours. Who has the belly for that? Bin Laden does. Anyone else?

Bob Greene: 'Tell your friend Tibbets that we need him again'
--------------------

Bob Greene

September 16, 2001

'It wouldn't work," he said toward the end of the terrible week just past.
"This is a different kind of war. You need to win it a different kind of way."

In the hours after the airborne attacks on New York and Washington, more than one person got in touch with me to say: "Tell your friend Tibbets that we need him again." It was difficult to tell if these people were being darkly sardonic, or literal. Paul Tibbets, at the controls of a B-29 he named for his mother, Enola Gay, in 1945 flew the world's first atomic bomb to Hiroshima and brought about the end of World War II.

The attacks last Tuesday have been compared with Pearl Harbor; if we used the ultimate weapon to end the war that was started at Pearl Harbor, the voices were implying, why stop halfway now? The fury among Americans is that intense. I could tell that at least some of them were serious.

So I talked with Tibbets, now 86 years old. He had sat in front of a television set for most of the last week. He said that last Tuesday's events caused any number of reactions in him -- about America's past, America's future, and the way to win wars.

The way to win this one, he said, is not the way that World War II was won.
"The way to win this is to get President Bush and the Congress to agree that we should do whatever is necessary to kill the germ," he said.

The germ being terrorist attacks. But, he said, what worked in World War II -- the world's first deployment of nuclear weapons -- would be futile in this war.
"We can't do it with bombs," Tibbets said. "We can't do it with airplanes. He's like a mouse -- he's always getting away from the trap."

The "he" Tibbets referred to is the man behind the terrorists -- whether it is, as some speculate, Osama bin Laden, or someone else.

The ultimate weapon was effective in August of 1945, Tibbets said, because only the United States had it. "Now, if you used it, you might win in the very short run," he said. "But so many other people have it. It would just be counterproductive. Too much kill. You'd end up losing -- the whole world would lose."

The answer, then?

"We have the capacity in this country to be the greatest terrorists in the world," he said.

Not exactly a phrase -- especially in these fragile days -- to soothe the souls of gentle men and women. But Tibbets was -- is -- a combat pilot, not a politician or a clergyman.

"Go into the yard of the guy over there and start tearing things up," he said. "Train our guys to be the worst killers in the world. Infiltrate the guy's society. Use double agents. Use civilians who can get close to him."

And then?

"Do it with money, not with bombs," the man who, with his crew, dropped the atomic bomb said. "Put out the word quietly. Say that we have $50 million to spend.

"Let the right people know that we'll pay $50 million for this guy's head on a tray."

And back here, in America? Tibbets said that he hopes the country will change as a result of what happened last Tuesday.

"We're not going to be as free and easy as we have been, and we shouldn't be as free and easy," he said. "We've slipped badly, as a country. I thought we learned something during World War II, but we've gotten back into our old habits of carelessness and the attitude of 'The rules don't apply to me -- they apply to the other guy. I can do whatever I want.'

"Maybe what happened this week will help swing things the other way. Let's start by paying attention to the people we elected to do the job. Let the president and the Congress agree on how to fight this thing, and then get behind them, like the country got behind Harry Truman."

When -- after Truman authorized Tibbets' mission -- World War II ended, "I told my crew: 'Fellows, we've just fought a war with more airplanes and more munitions than the world has ever known. But there won't be one like this again.'

"I knew warfare would change -- but I didn't foresee this. I didn't foresee this week. The only way terrorists can win a war is to put the people on the other side into a panic -- and we haven't panicked yet."

During the week just past, did he think about what it would be like to climb back into a warplane?

"You can't do anything in the cockpit," he said. "You play a better role by helping with decisions."

You can't do anything in the cockpit? Paul Tibbets, the man in the cockpit over Hiroshima, was really saying that?

"Different war," he said. "Different times. This week, there were good men in the cockpits of those four passenger planes, when the planes took off. But then someone else took over the flights.

"Yes, I was in the cockpit in World War II. But I didn't have any terrorists on my plane. I had 10 guys who were on my side."

Howdy!

Recent reports from several newspapers in Pakistan confirm that first US Special Forces have arrived in the country.

Today the German parliament has agreed with the use of German military resources in the case of US requests.

A German radio station has reported today that the US government might have asked for an engagement of the German KSK.
KSK means "Kommando Spezialkraefte" (Commando Special Forces). This unit is new within the German Army. Since 4 years the Army is building up this unit and they´re ready now with 1000 men. Like the US Special Forces and the British Special Air Service they´re highly skilled soldiers for long range reconnaissance patrols, sabotage behind enemy lines, unconventional warfare and hostage rescueing. First covert operations took place in former Yugoslavia. Criminals of war had been arrested without losses.
The radio report speculated about a possible use against terrorist camps in Afghanistan or the task to free the members of the relief organization "Shelter Now". A group of people from Germany, the USA and other countries is imprisoned in Afghanistan and they face the death penalty for "spreading Christian faith".

Marwan Al-Shehhi, a citizen of the United Arab Emirates who was possible the man who has flown the Boing 767 into the southern tower of the WTC, has lived for some time in the City of Bonn and has also studied for a time at the University of Bonn. I live near Bonn. As all other involved people that lived in Germany prior to the attacks he was characterized as a quiet but friendly man who was not connected with any radical attitudes or fundamentalist religion. Really strange. Those guys are already called "sleepers" in the German media.

The German police examines over a 1000 hints on possible involved people in the terror attacks.
Approximately 100 Germans had been killed in the attacks.

Bye!

WE ARE ALL NEW YORKERS
     by DAVID H. HACKWORTH

For too many years, I've been a voice in the wilderness trying to warn the American people and the military-industrial-congressional complex that we've entered a new era of war. Even after World Trade Center I, the embassy attacks and the savaging of the USS Cole, most people didn't want to know the truth. Nor, tragically, did our leaders in government -- probably because it's hard to think out of the box, especially when there's all that pork out there for the easy picking.

Five years ago, my wife decided to take me seriously. We were walking in Central Park when a car backfired.  Several seconds after I'd thrown her to the ground and rolled with her under a bush, she asked shakily, "What's going on?"

So I told her that New York was at the top of the terrorist hit list. As a student and survivor of many wars, I could see it all coming down as clearly as I saw and warned the top brass in 1966 that we'd lose in Vietnam unless we fought that war with the correct guerrilla tactics rather than refighting World War II.

My wife loves New York City more than anyone I know. But within the year, at her insistence, we'd left the vibrant Big Apple to live in Connecticut.

Today, of course, much as I wish my predictions had been off-target, nobody rolls their eyes any longer when I carry on about how terrorism has become this country's biggest threat.

But we can't all move to Connecticut -- in fact, nowhere we go can ever be far enough from either the threat or the physical and emotional fallout. There's no longer any safe spot for Americans except what we mindfully make for ourselves.

We are all New Yorkers. We are all the target, all under a shared siege, all bonded in spirit and in blood. Each and every American was hit last week -- and now we must take the hard steps necessary to protect our democratic way of life from an enemy with absolutely no respect for life, even his own.

This means instituting a level of security we've never known and having the unwavering commitment to an unconditional frontless war against an enemy who strikes at unarmed civilians from the shadows with increasingly more unthinkable weapons.

Our very survival depends upon our no longer allowing the MICC to keep trying to fight today's battles with yesterday's war machine. We must instead quickly punch into the basics of counterterrorism and common sense and stop fantasizing about the supposedly miraculous, all-protective Missile Defense Shield.

We must set aside our unilateralism and not-infrequent national arrogance and forge the alliances necessary to close down any terrorist sanctuaries and cut off all support. We must make clear that the friend of our terrorist foe is our enemy and will be treated accordingly: Any state harboring terrorists will get what Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany got after Pearl Harbor. And then we must move in a global effort of civilized nations to bring these monsters to justice -- either in the courtroom or by doing unto them as they've done unto us.

But in order to succeed, we need to act, not react. We must strike only when we are truly ready, only when we know where our enemies are and only at the times and places we select. And our weapons should not only be the sledgehammer we wielded in Serbia and Vietnam, but the pre-emptive scalpel the FBI used so effectively at the beginning of this millennium to prevent terrorist strikes in Times Square and Seattle.

We need to get smart as much as we need to get even -- to put in the time and the bucks to do whatever it takes to make our anti-terrorism defense shield permanently proactive. Just as our New York cousins set a daily example with their courage as they clean up and carry on, so must we all come together as a nation to let the world know loudly and clearly, "Never again."

Terrorists such as Osama bin Laden and sponsors of terrorism like Iraq's Saddam Hussein will soon learn that a fine line separates fear from rage and rage from revenge.
